The deed is done; Lenovo has officially completed the integration of IBM’s x86 server business in the UK and Ireland, acquired in 2014. In the coming years, I expect to see Lenovo send a strong message to the World. The team successfully took IBM’s flagging PC business and turned it into something great [the World’s largest PC maker]. I expect Lenovo to do the same for IBM x86 business. And, why wouldn’t it?
First, Lenovo has taken several thousand expert people from IBM, which gives it a very good intelligence base from day one. Second, OCF and other channel partners remain in place and, because of the people transferred from IBM to Lenovo, our contacts are the same, so we’ll continue to operate effectively for customers. Finally, Lenovo is a ‘happy owner’ of the x86 technology; it wants to be a manufacturer and it wants to be number one, so we now have a very motivated vendor partner for hardware, which will continue to invest and develop the x86 range.
For the past year or so, at OCF we’ve continued to operate within the chatter and rumours and it’s done us and our customers no harm at all. Now, the future is clear and exciting. As the UK’s leading IBM System x integrator, I’m very enthused by the completion of Lenovo’s acquisition and the likely benefits for our customers. If you’d like to talk to us about our work with Lenovo, feel free to get in touch.
